Securing the Spirit for Future Generations 
The Spirit of John I. Burton Scholarship Funds will support future graduates of Burton High School who choose to attend the University of Virginia’s College at Wise or Mountain Empire Community College to continue their education.

§ MECC has the highest documented financial need in the state with 80% receiving aid and over 90% applying for aid. |
§ There are over 1,000 students receiving financial aid and 525 are the recipients of private scholarships. |

§ Current tuition is $789 for twelve hours and is expected to increase 4-6% in the fall of 2004. |
§ Current in-state tuition is $7,768 per year and in-state room and board is $5,135 per year. |

§ This scholarship helps ensure students can attend MECC. |
§ This scholarship helps students graduate with the least debt compared to other national liberal arts colleges. |
